How to set up and use Miracast on Windows 10

You can project your screen of computers, smartphones and tablets to other screens, monitors, projectors and TV without a projector, with the help of Miracast software, wirelessly. This software is user-friendly and secure also. You need no cable to attach to any of your devices.

What is Miracast?

Miracast is a software that allows it user to project screen wirelessly to another external device. Miracast mirror screen of computers, smartphones and tablets to other external screens, monitors, projectors and TV without a projector and HDMI cable. You can name it “HDMI over Wi-Fi”.

These days Miracast comes inbuilt supported into computers. Microsoft introduced Miracast first in Windows 8.1. You can create easily a wireless connection between your computer and other external devices like screens, monitors, projectors and TV etc. Miracast will produce up to 1080p HD video (H.264 codec) and 5.1 surround sound audio.

Check Miracast is supported or not with your device

To check Miracast in Windows 10/8.1, type Run in search bar available in Taskbar. It will show Run in results. Click on run. 

Run box will open, type dxdiag in the run app.

A dialogue box will come. It shows "Do you want to check if your drivers are digitally signed? To check your drivers, Windows might connect to the Internet, but doesn't send personal information about your computer." Click on yes.


Below image (DirectX Diagnostic tool) will come. Now click on “Save All Information” button. Save the file to some location on your computer. 

Next is open saved file and search for ‘Miracast’. With Miracast you will find its status.

Set up and use Miracast in Windows 10/8.1

To set up Miracast with Windows 10/8.1, you need to have the screen with built-in Miracast, turn it on or an adapter with HDMI cable with it, connect it to HDMI port and turn it on.

Next is follow given path below :

Start > Settings > Devices > Connected devices

Now in “Connected devices”, click on ‘Add a device’ and wait until adaptor appears on the list after that click on the adaptor, shown recently. And it’s ready to use. Your setup of Miracast wireless screen is ready.

Now you can configure the display by pressing ‘Win+P’ and select a relevant option.
